MISLEADING CLAIM

MISLEADING CLAIM: The claim by the wife of the jailed opposition leader that she was ‘left alone’ by the workers at D-Chowk on the night of Nov 26, and that she did not leave the place till midnight seems to be disingenuous. Reports and video footage showed that she, along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) chief minister, had left the venue of the sit-in well before the crackdown. Whatever may be the compulsion for her to make the claim, there are just too many holes in her story to be plugged.

LEAKED VIDEOS: Pakistani Tik-Tokers, especially women, have often fallen victim to privacy breaches, with their allegedly explicit videos getting leaked on social media and then widely shared across various platforms. According to a report, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked 113,133 accounts on TikTok since 2020 over similar complaints. The PTA should continue its effort to curb the spread of inappropriate and offensive content.

PRACTICAL LEARNING: The Punjab Internship Programme for fresh grad-uates is a commendable initiative, refle-cting the government’s commitment to making education more practical. However, further measures are needed to improve the quality of education, and to equip Pakistani students with strong expertise in their respective fields. It is essential to ensure that all educational institutions are equipped with functional lab equipment and chemicals. Practical learning should be prioritised, allowing students to perform hands-on activities instead of merely attending lectures.

ROADS AND HIGHWAYS: Urban and rural areas in Sindh have a pathetic road infrastructure. In some areas, there are incomplete roads and unfinished highways. The Sindh government should urgently look into the matter.
