KARACHI, April 15: Chief of the Balochistan National Party (BNP) and a former chief minister of Balochistan Sardar Akhtar Mengal has appealed to the superior courts to take notice of the military operation, lawlessness and illegal detention of hundreds of people by law enforcement agencies in Balochistan.

“Our lives are still in danger… if I or any of my colleagues are killed or go missing, the ISI, MI and federal government should be held responsible,” he said.

The BNP chief was addressing a news conference at the Karachi Press Club along with MNA Abdul Rauf, MPA Akhtar Hussain, Jehanzaib Baloch, Rasoolullah Mengal and other leaders.

This was their first public appearance before media after the April 5 siege of Sardar Mengal’s house.

“It’s up to courts whether they should take notice now or after our death,” the Sardar remarked.

Rejecting the government’s repeated claim that only three tribal chiefs were creating trouble in Balochistan, he said that entire Balochistan was resisting the ongoing military operation.

In reply to the question whether his party would support the joint opposition movement against the government, he said it was premature to say anything at the moment.

However, he added, such a decision could be taken by the Pakistan Oppressed Nations Movement (Ponam).

Responding to another question, he said that the FC and ISI personnel were behind the sabotage activities, like destruction of power and gas installations and pipelines. He regretted that media was not doing correct reporting in this regard.—PPI
