Falcons and Mustangs triumph

KARACHI, April 14: Karachi Falcons and Karachi Mustangs conjured up victories against their opponent’s in the Karachi Polo Club (KPC) Beach Polo tournament on Friday.

In the first match, Falcons defeated Knights 4-3, thanks to Shiraz Qureshi’s match winning goal in the third and last chukkar.

The match started in a thrilling fashion when Knights took the lead with two back to back goals scored by Khan and Haseeb Mehta, a two handicap player.

Falcons staged a comeback in the second chukkar when Naveed Hakeem scored his first goal to reduce the deficit. However, Knights maintained their lead when Umar Qureshi scored through a solo effort.

Falcons came back with vengeance in the third chukkar scoring three back to back goals to turn the table on Knights. Those who slammed home goals were Irfan Shaikh, Naveed Hakeem and Shiraz Qureshi.

Mustangs created a major upset when they toppled fancied Hawks 2-1 in the second match.

Goal eluded both the teams in the action packed first chukkar. Mustangs drew first blood when Kashif Nisar took an adventurous under the neck shot beating the opponent’s defence in the second chukkar.

Hawks neutralized the score when Shahid Hayat converted a penalty hit in the closing stages of the third chukkar.

Sami Ibrahim scored the decisive goal when he converted a 10 yard spot penalty for Mustangs in the extra chukkar.

The final is scheduled for Sunday at 4.30pm.
