Spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry Majed al-Ansari has said it is unacceptable for Israel to exploit the current situation in Syria and violate its sovereignty, Al Jazeera reports.

He added Qatar had strongly condemned the incursion of Israel on the border with Syria, stressing: “This will lead the region into more problems.”

The spokesperson also said the Gulf state “urgently” asked the global community to act for international law to be adhered to.

“We have international conventions, we have sovereignty and the unity of the Syrian territories,” he said.

“No one is allowed, under any circumstances, including the Israeli occupation, to seize opportunities to occupy … Syrian territories,” al-Ansari added.
