KARACHI: An antiterrorism court (ATC) on Friday granted interim bail to four Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leaders in cases pertaining to May 9 violence.

At the outset of the hearing, the four PTI leaders — Firdos Shamim Naqvi, Khurram Sher Zaman, Raja Azhar and Muhammad Faizan — submitted applications before the ATC-XV judge through their counsel Shujat Ali and Nazeerullla, seeking pre-arrest bail in May 9 cases.

Last month, the court cancelled bail bonds in the May 9 cases and issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of 11 top party leaders from Karachi after dismissing their condonation applications.

After hearing the lawyers, the court allowed their applications and granted interim bail against a surety bond of Rs100,000 each and adjourned the hearing until Dec 9 for the confirmation and otherwise on the interim order.

Alamgir sent to prison

Meanwhile, the investigating officer (IO) probing the May 9 case, registered at the Ferozabad police station, produced former PTI MNA Alamgir Khan Mehsud before the ATC judge at the judicial complex inside the Central Prison Karachi.

The court sent him to jail on judicial remand.

His counsel also submitted a post-arrest bail application before the court.

The judge fixed Dec 9 as the date of hearing of the bail plea.
