A demonstration has been held in Norway’s capital, Oslo, in solidarity with Palestinians at the initiative of the Norwegian Church, Al Jazeera reports.

The country’s king, members of the government and leaders of political parties participated in the demonstration, Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide has told Al Jazeera.

“We must stop the war and killing in Gaza, but we must [also] strive to achieve the aspirations of the Palestinian people,” he said. “We have taken initiatives such as recognising the State of Palestine and supporting UNRWA, and we hope that other countries will follow suit,” he added.

The top diplomat said it was necessary to “think collectively beyond the ceasefire”, and work towards the establishment of a Palestinian state.
