ISLAMABAD, April 12: Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s member of the National Assembly from Chitral says his opponents are trying to create misunderstanding among the two communities in his constituency to regain their political ground lost to the MMA.

Talking to Dawn here on Wednesday, Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali said the MMA had succeeded during the last three years to create communal harmony and bring the two communities closer to engender peace and alleviate poverty in the most backward valley.

He rejected the allegations of former district nazim and PML leader Shahzada Mohiuddin that Focus Humanitarian Organisation had interfered in the local government election and used its resources in support of the MMA candidate for district nazim’s slot.

“To cover up his defeat and to earn the blessing of President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Mr Mohiuddin is blaming the NGO for his defeat in the election,” he added.

Maulana Chitrali vowed to work for the welfare of both the communities without any prejudice, adding that it was a result of such efforts that six union council nazims belonging to the Ismaili community had voted for the MMA candidate in the district nazim’s election.

He said he would continue to work for the rights of the people of Chitral, who had been neglected in the past.
