EU foreign policy chief condemns proposed West Bank annexation

European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell has condemned Israel’s far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich’s call to annex the Israel-occupied West Bank.

“I unequivocally condemn Minister Smotrich’s call to ‘apply sovereignty’ in the West Bank, a clear step towards illegal annexation,” Borrell said in a post on X.

“Such rhetoric undermines international law, violates Palestinians’ rights and threatens any prospects for a two-state solution,” he added.
