QUETTA: Armed men attacked a checkpoint of security forces in Kech district on Sunday night, officials said.

They added the armed men attacked the Kudan checkpoint of security forces from all directions with heavy weapons, including RPG-7. The security personnel deployed at the checkpoint returned fire.

The heavy exchange of fire continued for an hour. As forces arrived at the checkpoint, the militants escaped from the scene.

However, during the gun battle, one soldier embraced martyrdom and eight were injuries, officials said. The body of the martyred soldier and injured personnel were taken to Turbat district hospital. The martyred soldier was identified as Lance Naik Safiullah.

Sources said militants reached the area on motorbikes and launched the attack after surrounding the checkpoint.
