KARACHI: A man was shot dead by armed robbers after he drew Rs500,000 from a private bank branch in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Clifton SHO Azam Rajpar said that 45-year-old Saeed Allah Bux drew the cash from the bank branch in Phase-V. He came out of the bank and was walking on foot when four muggers riding two motorcycles intercepted him and tried to snatch the cash.

The SHO said that the victim put up resistance and the robbers opened fire on him and rode away without any loot.

He suffered a single bullet wound in the chest and was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The SHO said that the victim was said to be a former soldier, who now worked as a private security guard.

Meanwhile, the body of an unidentified man was found near the Manghopir pumping station on Wednesday night.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Doctors said the throat of the 30-year-old man was slit.

The police said that further investigations were underway to ascertain the identity of the victim and to arrest his killer(s).

Two guards shot, hurt near airport

Two private security guards were shot at and wounded near Airprot on Wednesday.

The Airport police said a clash took place between some guards, as a result of which two guards, Fazlur Rehman and Mohammed Nawaz, were wounded near Jinnah Terminal. They were shifted to a hospital and further investigation into the matter was underway, the officials said, without providing any details.

However, some TV channels reported that the clash took place between two young men traveling in luxury cars over some issue ‘involving a girl’ and those who resorted to firing were in fact their private guards.
