ISLAMABAD April 8: Pakistan Muslim League secretary-general and Senate’s foreign relations committee chairman Mushahid Hussain Sayed has urged the European Union to play its role in peaceful resolution of Iran’s nuclear issue because threats of use of force will destabilise the region.

Talking to a Swedish delegation, headed by Lars Danielsson, State Secretary and Chief of Staff to the Swedish prime minister, at the PML House here on Saturday, he said Sweden should play an active role on the issue of nuclear proliferation.

Referring to the US-India nuclear deal, Senator Mushahid Hussain said the deal was based more on geo-political considerations than peaceful energy purposes.

He termed it an attempt to counter China in the region and said it would not only promote proliferation but would also spark a new arms race in Asia.

State Secretary at the Swedish Ministry of Defence Jonas Heilm, Swedish Ambassador in Pakistan Ann Wilkins, and Political Counsellor Mathias Otterstedt also attended the meeting.
