ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari fractured his foot last night while disembarking from a plane at Dubai Airport, a President House spokesperson said on Thursday.

Following this incident, Mr Zardari will be unable to proceed to China on a scheduled official visit on Nov 2 because doctors have advised him to rest for four weeks, a source close to the president told Dawn.

According to the Presidency, Mr Zardari was immediately taken to hospital for initial medical assistance.

After the examination, doctors applied a plaster to his foot, the spokesperson said, adding that the plaster would remain for four weeks and that President Zardari had been advised to rest completely at home.

The source said Mr Zardari went to Dubai to meet his newborn grandson, Mir Zulfikar, son of Bakhtawar Bhutto-Zardari, who is residing in the United Arab Emirates. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari is also expected to join the family in Dubai.
