BAHAWALPUR: The Kahrorepucca additional district and sessions judge on Tuesday handed down death sentence on three counts along with fine to a man for killing a woman and her five-year-old daughter.

According to the prosecution, the convict, Ramzan, strangled Shazia and her daughter, Zahra Bibi, on Sept 27, 2022, due to a family dispute. Following a complaint filed by Niaz Ahmed, the father of the deceased Shazia, the Kahror Pacca police registered a case under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Ramzan was arrested, and his case was presented in court.

In the judgment announced on Tuesday, the judge sentenced Ramzan to death on three counts and ordered a fine of Rs1,250,000.

In a separate case, an additional sessions judge in Multan sentenced Haseeb Nasir, a convicted drug trafficker, to 10-year imprisonment along with a fine of Rs100,000.

If he defaults on the fine, Nasir will serve an additional three months in prison.

ARRESTED: The Lodhran virtual women police station claimed to have arrested three people Riaz, Mushtaq and Ghulam Sarwar for allegedly torturing a transgender person Muhammad Abbas who has litigation with the suspect.

The suspect during alleged attack on the complainant also opened fire and snatched cash from him. Police on Abbas’s complaint registered a case and arrested them.

SUSPENDED: Multan CPO Sadiq Ali Dogar on Tuesday suspended four police officials for negligence as a blasphemy suspect had escaped on Monday from their custody.

ASI Muhammad Shahid, constables Umar, Danial and Arsalan had escorted the suspect ‘T’ to the court for hearing of his case but he managed his escape. On CPO’s orders, Chehlak police also registered a case against the four police officials besides initiating departmental inquiry against them.

BRICK KILN: The environment department on Tuesday demolished a brick kiln and registered three FIRs against kiln owners in the city for violating government’s instruction about zigzag technology.

The officials said action against the brick kilns violating government’s SOP would continue.
