SAHIWAL: A woman was shot dead allegedly by her elder brother for being frequently on the mobile phone at Chak 31/14-L on Tuesday.

According to reports, Sana Kousar had got married with Nadeem Ali of Kamalia and moved to her husband’s house. Sana later sought a divorce and returned to her father’s house. She was often found by her brother, Aon, talking on the mobile phone and he would forbid her from using the phone. On the day of the incident, she was again talking on the phone. An argument ensued between Sana and Aon over the phone calls and she defended her action. Her brother got enraged and he shot her dead with a pistol before fleeing.

Shah Kot Police sent the body to the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital for autopsy.

Police registered a murder case against the suspect on the complaint of his father, Kousar Abbas.

TEACHERS: Out of a total of 2,400 teachers in district Sahiwal, 1,920 have been served show-cause notices for not attending the Training Need Assessment (TNA) test.

The notices were issued by the chief executive officer (education) under Section 7(b), 5 (1) (b) of the Punjab Employees Efficiency Discipline Accountability Act 2006 as directed by the secretary School Education Department (SED).

Gulzar Bhatti, the chief executive officer (Education), told Dawn that the notices were served to schoolteachers in tehsil Sahiwal and tehsil Chichawatni on charges of ‘misconduct and inefficiency’ and ‘absence from TNA tests’.

It is reported that district and divisional activists of the Grand Teachers Alliance (GTA) were also served a notice with allegation for spreading ‘voice messages on social media platforms instigating teachers against the TNA test’.

Muhammad Fazain, an SSE (English) at the Govt Elementary School, Chak 187/9-L, said he had been charged with all three allegations while others were charged with the first two allegations by the CEO under a notification, dated Oct 28.

The divisional leadership of the GTA condemned the show-cause notices and demanded their withdrawal. It announced plans to stage a sit-in in front of the CEO, Sahiwal office, to press for their demands.

Doctor tortured: A homeopathic doctor was kidnapped and tortured by a couple and their brother-in-law on Monday in the Lucky Garden area near the Sahiwal bypass.

The Yousafwala police registered an FIR that Umair, his wife Sania Bibi and Umair’s brother Shahroz, along with two unidentified accomplices lured doctor Muhammad Adnan to their home under the guise of a medical consultation. Once inside, they stripped him and subjected him to physical and psychological abuse.

The attackers reportedly forced the doctor to record compromising videos and demanded a ransom of Rs77,800 for his release.

Fearing for his life, Dr Adnan managed to contact a friend, Muhammad Saeed, who arranged the payment.

Yousafwala police have launched an investigation but have not made any arrests yet.
