TIMERGARA, April 7: Schoolteachers from Lower and Upper Dir and Bajaur Agency have called upon the education authorities and the provincial government to notify promotion of subject specialists in accordance with the agreement reached with their representatives.

In separate statements issued on Friday, various organisations of teachers regretted that the notification was being delayed and observed that vested interests were creating hurdles in this regard.

They pointed out that before 2005, 75 per cent of the subject specialists’ posts in higher secondary schools had to be filled through Public Service Commission (PSC) and 25 per cent had to be filled batch-wise from Senior English Teachers (SET).

Later, they said, the NWFP government, the education department and teachers’ representatives unanimously decided to change the formula. Under the new formula, 50 per cent of the posts were to be filled through PSC while the rest from various cadres — from the PTC to SET — through batch-wise selection.

Talking to this correspondent, NWFP All Teachers Association vice-president Haji Khaliqur Rahman, Lower Dir Ittihadi Asatiza general secretary Alam Zeb Khan and Headmaster and Senior Staff Association general secretary Aftab Alum Khan said they had learnt that a few Peshawar-based leaders of teaching community were hatching conspiracies against the implementation of the new formula.

They threatened that they would stage agitation if the notification regarding promotion was delayed any further.
