Sixteen Palestinians, including four children, have been killed as a result of an Israeli air strike targeting a school sheltering displaced families in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza Strip, our colleagues on the ground are reporting, Al Jazeera reports.

The Shuhadaa (Martyrs) of Nuseirat, a public school, was hosting hundreds of internally displaced families when it was directly hit.

Those injured in the attack, which took place at rush hour around noon, are being taken to nearby hospitals, Al-Awdan and Al-Aqsa.

More than one missile was used in the area, which was close to the local market.
