GUJRAT: The Gujranwala police on Wednesday arrested a man who had allegedly thrown a minor boy into canal after the child’s mother refused to marry the suspect.

Complainant Imrana Bibi, residing in Riaz Town in Ferozwala police precincts, told police on Oct 22 that suspect Ali Hassan had kidnapped her four and a half years old son Ali Zamin from the street.

She alleged that the suspect had been trying to persuade her to marry him, but she rejected his proposal.

Police lodged a kidnap case against the suspect on Oct 23 and started investigation.

According to police, the suspect told them during initial investigation that he had thrown the minor boy into Ferozewala Canal.

The Gujranwala SSP investigation has been assigned the case.

As per initial police investigation, Imrana Bibi had contracted love marriage with one Alamdar Hussain, but was divorced by him. She was residing with her son in a house.

A spokesman for Gujranwala police said Rescue 1122 teams searched the missing boy in the canal, but could not find him so far.

WOMAN KILLED: A woman was shot dead following a quarrel between children in Awan Chowk locality in Aroop police precincts in Gujranwala.

According to police sources, seven suspects, including Qasim, Shehroz and Danish, opened fire at the house of Malik Muhammad Ilyas after children of both families quarreled in street.

As a result, a woman, identified as Rafaqat Bibi, sustained critical bullet injuries. She was shifted to the Gujranwala Teaching Hospital, where she succumbed to her wounds.

Doctors conducted autopsy of the deceased woman and handed the body over to her family.

Police have registered a case against seven nominated suspects under sections 302, 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on the report of the deceased woman’s husband.

WALK: A breast cancer awareness walk was organised by the doctors and staff of the DHQ Hospital’s Radiology Department.

The walk was led by Prof Iqbal Hussain Dogar, Principal of the Gujranwala Medical College and Teaching Hospital. The participants were holding pamphlets related to breast cancer.

“If you experience pain, lumps, or swelling in your breast, get yourself checked immediately,” Prof Dogar advised the participants, adding that women should examine themselves daily.

“If any issue is noticed during the examination, consult a doctor immediately,” he said and added that breast cancer was treatable if detected at an early stage.
