KURRAM: All schools and bazaars in Parachinar, the headquarters of Kurram district, were closed as the residents staged protests in different areas on Monday against the closure of roads in the region.

Various roads, including the main Peshawar-Kurram Road, have been closed to traffic for the last two weeks, causing problems to the people, forcing them to come onto the streets.

A Turi Bangash tribal leader, Jalal Bangash said that the main highway had been closed for last two weeks, which had multiplied difficulties of the local people. He said that the road closure had created shortage of medicines and foodstuffs in the district.

He said that the educational institutions and bazaars had been closed to protest against the closure of roads.

Kurram deputy commissioner Javedullah Mehsud has said that the roads were closed due to security reasons after a convoy had come under attack in the district on Oct 12.
