GUJRAT: A former minister of state and PML-N leader Jafar Iqbal Fatta Bhand says the lone power producing unit owned by a member of the Sharif family does not receive any capacity payment as per its agreement.

In response to Jamaat-i-Islami emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman’s remarks made at a public meeting in Gujrat on Friday, wherein the Sharifs were asked to stop receiving capacity payments for its power generation company, Mr Iqbal said the power generation company -- Chiniot Power Limited -- owned by Salman Shahbaz, the scion of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, never received capacity payments.

Talking to Dawn, he said Mr Salman’s plant only received payments for the electricity units it supplied to the national grid. He said the plant earned no payments when it was not operating unlike many other independent power producers (IPPs). He advised the Jamaat chief to do some research before going public on such issues.
