PESHAWAR, April 4: The NWFP chapter of the Pakistan People’s Party on Tuesday called upon the party’s chairperson Banazir Bhutto to expel legislators who, they said, had sold their votes, causing defeat of Farhatullah Babar in the recent Senate elections.

At a meeting, organised by the PPP City, was held at the Goth Gathri Hall to mark the 27th death anniversary of PPP’s founding chairman Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, PPP leaders accused some MPAs of being involved in horse-trading and said that they had not voted for the party’s nominee a second time. They said they would not allow these MPAs to attend any party gathering in future.

PPP’s provincial senior vice-president Syed Qamar Abass, district president Syed Ayub Shah, former district presidents Saeed Ahmed Khan and Zulfiqar Afghani and chief of the People’s Youth Zulqarnain Haider highlighted Mr Bhutto’s political struggle and his life. They said that Mr Bhutto had secured the release 90,000 prisoners of war, including army personnel who surrendered in Dhaka in 1971, took back territory captured by the Indian army, gave the country its only unanimously approved constitution besides bringing in a huge foreign investment in the public sector.

They attributed Mr Bhutto of having introduced land reforms, freeing peasants from the yoke of feudal lords.

“He (Mr Bhutto) boosted the country’s image in the comity of nations by organising an Islamic summit in Lahore, adding that he also turned Pakistan into an Islamic welfare state.
