NAWABSHAH: A Rangers man was shot dead when he offered resistance to a gang of dacoits, who intercepted his car along Nawabshah-Qazi Ahmed road on Monday.

Ballu Ja Quba SHO Javed Rajput told the media that the dacoits riding motorcycles intercepted the car and snatched from him the cash he possessed.

However, the police officer said, the Rangers man, later identified as Shariq Janjua, offered resistance upon which one of the dacoits opened fire.

They sped away leaving Mr Janjua in a pool of blood with serious gunshot wounds, he added.

The police officer said that the dacoits looted around Rs400,000 from him.

Soon after the incident, Mr Janjua, a resident of Rawalpindi, was transported to the Peoples University of Medical & Health Sciences (PUMHS) where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. His body was sent to his home after a postmortem examination.

SHO Rajput said that police were making efforts to arrest the dacoits.

Meanwhile, the manager of a petrol pump located along the same road was deprived of all cash he possessed. The manager, Mohammad Umer, believed that it was the same gang that had robbed and killed the Rangers man. He also put the looted amount at around Rs400,000.
