SHANGLA: A government high school in Danakol area of Chakesar tehsil here on Saturday expelled four grade 10 students and also issued them with bad conduct certificates for making TikTok videos in the institution.
Local residents said in a video message uploaded on social media three teachers were seen stating that they had expelled four students for defaming the school and local norms.
The teachers also said the students had been issued bad conduct certificates so that they could not get admission in any other school. They said the students were also made to hand books back to the school.
District education officer Muzafar Syed also confirmed the development and said teachers were not authorised to issue bad conduct certificates to students without consulting him. However, he said the students would be re-enrolled in the school.
Mr Syed said students could not be expelled from school for such a minor offence. He said the school’s administration could use other means to discipline the students.
The DEO said that both the teacher and students were not allowed to take mobile phones to classroom as it was a violation of the rules.
Sharafat Ali, an educationist, also condemned the way the students were expelled from school and issued bad conduct certificates. He said the move had hurt the reputation of the educational institution.
The academician said instead the teachers should have called the students’ parents to school to inform them about the ‘misconduct’ of their children.
Mr Ali, who is head of the Government Centennial Model School, Chakesar, offered the students admission to his institution. He said he would take up the matter of students’ re-enrolment in his school with the relevant officials to save their future.
