ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has sought United States’ help in dealing with economic and security challenges.

The requests were conveyed during a meeting between US Ambassador Donald Blome and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar at Foreign Office, on Tuesday.

The meeting took place as Pakistan faces delays in securing a 37-month Extended Fund Facility Arrangement worth $7bn with the International Monetary Fund. A swift resolution to the pending IMF deal is seen by Pakistan as vital for economic stability.

During their meeting, they explored a range of bilateral and regional issues, including economic cooperation, security, counterterrorism efforts, and the protection of Afghan refugees, according to statements issued by both sides.

UNGA session

The FO said Mr Dar and Mr Blome also discussed “matters relating to the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly”.

A source said that Pakistan leadership was seeking a meeting with US leadership on the sidelines of UN General Assembly session and a formal request is being made.
