Punjab annex U-17 hockey title

LAHORE, March 30: Punjab won the Inter-provincial Under-17 girls hockey championship, after securing a convincing 3-0 victory over Balochistan in the final at the National Hockey Stadium on Thursday.

Punjab led 2-0 at half-time. Ayesha drew first blood in the 11th minute crowning a field attempt.

Tehmina Siddique doubled the lead through another field goal in the 29th minute.

After the break, Saman struck the third goal in the 63rd minute.

Sindh earned third place defeating NWFP with Mehwish Khan scoring the solitary goal.

Punjab received Rs 30,000 while Balochistan were richer by Rs 20,000 and Sindh Rs 10,000.

Punjab’s Sidra Riaz was declared the best player of the championship and received Rs 7,000.

Ayesha, also from Punjab, remained the top scorer and was honoured with a cash prize of Rs 5,000.

Shazia Ishaq of Balochistan was also given a special cash prize of Rs 5,000.
