MANSEHRA: Lower Kohistan police on Friday destroyed cannabis plants grown in the mountainous part of the district and arrested one accused.

“We have a zero tolerance against drug peddlers and cultivation of poppy and cannabis throughout the district,” DPO Mohammad Umar told reporters.

A police team raided the Saunglan area and destroyed cannabis plants cultivated on different mountainous fields and arrested Abdul Manan under the Control of Narcotic Substances Act (CNSA), 1997.

“Our crackdown against cultivation of cannabis and poppy is well underway and special police teams have been constituted to take part in this ongoing operation,” Mr Umar said.

He said that ulema and locals were also involved in that operation against drug trafficking.

The district police chief also appealed to the people to inform police about any drug smuggling activity if it came to their notice.
