KARACHI: Police have formed a special investigation team to probe into the Karsaz accident case registered against a woman SUV driver.

Suspect Natasha Danish has been booked and arrested for recklessly driving her Toyota Land Cruiser and killing Imran Arif, 60, and his daughter Amna Arif near Karsaz on August 19.

Speaking to Dawn, Inspector General of Police Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon said that a special investigation team led by an SSP rank officer had been formed since it was a high-profile case. It was aimed at better investigation, he added.

He said the probe team led by a senior officer would lend more ‘credence’ to the investigation.

IGP says chemical examiner’s reports will bring some clarity about the incident

He pointed out that normally, an investigation officer of the rank of sub-inspector or inspector conducts an investigation who would submit the case/challan before the court when he considers it ‘fit for prosecution’.

But in case of the special team, different teams work on different aspects of the case on daily basis with ‘close supervision’ by the SSP or a senior ranking officer.

The IGP told Dawn that the chemical examiner’s reports of the suspect would bring some ‘clarity’ about the Karsaz tragedy.

DIG visits bereaved family

East-Zone Deputy Inspector General of Police, Captain Ghulam Azfar Mahesar on Friday visited the residence of the victims in Gulzar-i-Hijri, Scheme-33.

He offered condolences and extended ‘full legal support’ to the bereaved family, according to a statement issued by the East Zone police spokesperson. He also discussed the case with the family.

“The police will ensure merit at all levels,” vowed DIG Mahesar.

He claimed that the family expressed their ‘satisfaction’ about the investigation.

He said a special investigation team led by SSP-Investigation Aleena Rajpar had been formed.

All CCTV footage recordings have been collected, which are being examined by investigators.

He said the report of a blood test of the female driver was expected within the next 24 hours and in the light of the medical reports, more sections would be added to the FIR and future course of action would be decided for investigation.

The DIG said that the arrested female driver’s family had not submitted any medical report or medical history of the woman to the probe team so far.

He also urged others who were injured or whose property was damaged in the accident to come forward and approach the police for recording their statements.

He said the investigation was underway and justice would be provided to the heirs of the deceased father and his daughter.
