Bush’s senior aide quits

Published March 29, 2006

WASHINGTON, March 28: White House chief of staff Andrew Card resigned on Wednesday and was immediately replaced by budget director Joshua Bolten. The change followed suggestion by members of the Republican Party that President Bush bring in new aides and new energy.

Some Republicans, and many Democrats, blame present Bush aides for dragging America into a war in Iraq which is becoming increasingly violent.

Since November 2000, Mr Card has been chief of staff to Mr Bush.

He was the secretary of transportation for two years under Bush Senior and served as that administration’s deputy chief of staff.
