Israel’s prime minister has contradicted Israeli media reports about the Israeli military leadership’s frustration with the lack of political goals in the fighting in the Gaza Strip, Al Jazeera reports.
PM Benjamin Netanyahu said during a security review at a cabinet meeting that there was no frustration in the General Staff, according to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth.
“I heard rumours in the media that there is no goal to fight and that the political level is preventing the Israeli army from advancing,” he was quoted as saying. “This is not true. The goal is victory. The [army] systematically crushes Hamas with the aim of eliminating its military and authoritarian capabilities while releasing all abductees.”
