Murder accused surrenders

MIRPURKHAS, March 27: Mohammad Usman, facing a charge of double murder, surrendered to police on Saturday night, a day after police raided his house and arrested his elder brother Mohammad Ramzan.

Police say they have recovered arms and choppers used in the murder of Narsingh Meghwar and Gordhan Meghwar a week ago.

Reports say the main accused whom the police has shifted to an unknown destination for interrogation, had made away with 40 tola gold ornaments and cash, after killing Narsingh and Gordhan.

Police initiated inquiry into the double murder after dead bodies were recovered and nabbed Abid Arain and Akbar who spilled out details about the murder, including the name of main accused.

TPO Mirpurkhas Qamar Shaikh raided Usman’s house on Friday, arrested his elder brother and recovered murder weapons.

NAZIM POLL: The chief election commissioner has extended the date of elections scheduled for March 27 on the seat of taluka naib nazim Mirpurkhas.

A notification, issued by the CEC and forwarded to the judicial magistrate-III and returning officer, said that the date of March 27 has been re-fixed for elections on the seat of naib taluka nazim of taluka council Mirpurkhas on the request of Sindh home minister in view of law and order situation in Mirpurkhas to avoid any untoward incident as polarization existed among various groups contesting election.

He said that fresh poll for seat of naib taluka nazim would be held on March 30 at 1pm.

The meeting of taluka council has been convened for the said date, the notification said.

A member of taluka council Mirpurkhas, Malik Liaquat of the PML, who had contested for post of naib taluka nazim, had filed constitutional petition in the SHC, Hyderabad bench, which quashed result of previous election and ordered re-election.
