KHYBER: The district police officer (DPO) appointed four female additional station house officers in different police stations and an assistant line officer, here on Thursday.

A notification issued from the police training Centre in Shah Kas in Jamrud said that Mehak Pervaiz Masih, Naila Jabbar, Fatima Yasmeen Jan and Ms Nusrat were appointed as additional station house officers in Landi Kotal , Ali Masjid, Bara and Jamrud police stations respectively while Ms Shanza was assigned the responsibilities of assistant line officer at the police lines.

DPO Saleem Abbas Kulachi said that more than half of the population of the Khyber is women and in order to address many gender issues, these female officers were appointed in these police stations.

However, there was a mixed reaction on the social media on the appointments of female police officers on senior posts as some younger generation’s representatives were apprehensive about the ability of female officers to handle the present threatening law and order situation.

Many lauded their appointments and insisted that the appointments would motivate the local female population to come forward and join the police force and do the challenging jobs.
