BEIJING, March 25: China has provided meteorological satellite data reception equipment to Pakistan to help manage natural disasters. This is a part of on-going cooperation in the field of space technology for its peaceful use, at bilateral and regional levels. The equipment, based on DVB-S (Digital Video Broadcast-Satellite) technology, would provide real-time data collected by China’s Fengyun meteorological satellite series, said Qin Dahe, a senior official of China Meteorological Administration (CMA).

The equipment was handed over to Pakistan’s ambassador Salman Bashir at a ceremony held at the China National Metrological Satellite Administration Headquarters.

The sources told APP that the receiver system had multiple uses, including weather forecasting, disaster assessment, environment monitoring, oceanography, aeronautics, astronomy and forestry as well as for energy.

This system provides complete global coverage and represents a major technological advance by China, which it is sharing with the founding members of the Asia Pacific Satellite Communication Organizations.
