Role of agriculture highlighted

DERA ISMAIL KHAN, Oct 16: A seminar was arranged by Agriculture Research Institute Ratta Kulachi here on Tuesday to observed the World Food Day.

The theme of the seminar was ‘Fight Hunger to Reduce Poverty’. Qazi Hifzur Rehman, Vice Chancellor Gomal University was the chief guest while Sardar Inayatullah Khan Gandapur, Director Agriculture NWFP presided over the function.

In their speeches, Dr Nasirud Din, Dr Ahmad Bakhsh and Abdul Latif, the senior agriculture scientists, highlighted the role of agriculture around the globe.

Nasirud Din spoke on the role of Agriculture in reducing hunger. Dr. Ahmad Bakhsh highlighted the role of nutrients for more grain yields and Dr Abdul Latif spoke on reducing hunger by managing pests.

In his presidential address, Qazi Hifzur Rehman said that the world has the surplus production in grains but their distribution was not proper. He said in the past economic activities were confined only to the production of grains. Agriculture, commerce and industry were given undue weight but no attention was given to the distribution of the production.
