PESHAWAR: A newlywed bride died after she allegedly consumed some poisonous food in Sarband area on the outskirts of Peshawar, while the groom was admitted to hospital in critical condition.

According to the police, the couple belongs to Afghanistan, and got married on Sunday.

They said the family members broke open the door to the room of the couple after repeated knocks went unheeded on Monday morning, and found both the bride and groom lying unconscious.

Upon reaching Hayatabad Teaching hospital, the bride was declared dead, while the groom was admitted in precarious condition, the police added.

The police said that investigation was in progress and any clue about consumption of poisonous food would be found after interviewing the groom, who is currently fighting for life.
