Punjab triumph

LAHORE, March 23: Fine bowling by leg-spinners Mohammad Riaz and Iqbal Zahoor and half-century by Pervaiz Shah helped Lahore Whites won the 8th Inter-city seniors cricket cup beating Sheikhupura in the final by 23 runs at the Qadhafi Stadium on Thursday.

Riaz and Iqbal shared six wickets for 30 and 36 runs as Sheikhupura were all out for 174 in 34.4 overs in chase of 198. Saadat Ali hit 51 off 60 balls with two fours while Mohammad Anis contributed 47-ball 37, including one six and one four, but their efforts fell short.

Pervaiz hit sedate 75-ball 51 with two boundaries and with fellow-opener Naved Anjum (38, four fours, two sixes, 37 balls) gave an opening stand of 56 to the winners.
