MIRPURKHAS/NAWABSHAH: Power consumers held demonstrations in different localities against inefficiency, corruption and arrogance of officers towards people at the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) on Wednesday.

The protesters said that over the last week dozens of pole-mounted transformers (PMTs)had fallen out of order due to overloading and most of them had not been shifted to repair shops, depriving a huge population of electricity in sweltering hot weather.

The demonstrations were held in Gharibabad, Lalchandabad, Jamnadas Colony, Imran Town, Hameed Pura Colony, Khaar Para, Adam Town, Pak Colony, Nawab Colony, Walkart Town, Scheme No II, Bhansinghabad, parts of Satellite Town, including Gulshan Colony.

The protesters alleged that their transformers had burnt down due to overloading but Hesco officials did not shift the faulty transformers to the designated engineering workshop for early repairs.

They deplored that the officers were not listening to their complaints as their telephones remained switched off.

The protesters dispersed peacefully after Hesco officials assured them of restoring power supply soon.

STP protest against Hesco

Activists of Sindh Taraqqi-pasand Party (STP) staged a demonstration outside Hesco office on Wednesday in protest against unannounced laodshedding and prolonged discontinuation of power supply.

They said that many areas in Nawabshah city including Azeem Colony, Hasan City, villages of Usman Keerio, Lal Khan Magsi and dozens of other areas had been without power for more than a week.

They demanded registration of cases against corrupt officials, repair of transformers and shortening of loadshedding hours.
