LAHORE: A labourer died while another injured allegedly when a hand grenade exploded in a godown in Misri Shah, while in a separate incident another was found in a garbage heap on Walton Road here on Friday.

Following the two incidents, the DIG Operations ordered investigations to check the supply chain of the explosive devices and sought a report on the matter.

About the Misri Shah incident, a police official says that a laboruer, Khalil, was busy working in a godown, when he allegedly found a hand grenade and inadvertently removed its pin.

He said that as soon as the pin was removed, the hand grenade exploded with a bang, leaving the labourer injured critically, while another worker present there also suffered minor injuries.

The powerful explosion caused a crater on the ground, besides partially damaging the building.

On being informed of the incident, a police team immediately rushed to the site and launched investigations, the police official said.

He said that in another incident, the Factory Area police responded to an emergency call when a passerby spotted a hand grenade in a heap of garbage. The police seized the explosive and launched an inquiry.
