BAHAWALNAGAR: PML-N local leader Ghulam Rabbani was shot dead while his cousin was injured by armed bikers near Milad Chowk in Chishtian on Saturday night.

Police sources told Dawn that Rabbani and his cousin, Jamil Chawla, were on their way to Lahore by a car. When they reached Milad Chowk, four armed men on two motorcycles opened fire on them. The shooting left both men critically injured while the attackers fled.

The injured were shifted to the Chishtian THQ Hospital where Rabbani succumbed to his wounds while Chawla was said to be critical.

According to police sources, Rabbani’s murder was a result of a long-standing dispute in which his brother had killed a man.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took notice of the incident and directed the IGP to investigate the incident and present a report.

She offered condolences and expressed sympathies to the bereaved family. She directed the authorities concerned to provide the best medical treatment facilities to the injured cousin of Rabbani.
