FAISALABAD, March 20: Wapda chairman Tariq Hameed has said that there is absolutely no dispute among power distribution companies (Discos) over the issue of tariff and the government has finalized its rates for various companies which will be notified soon.

Speaking to participants of an inaugural ceremony of the 500KV transmission lines completed with financial assistance of the Chinese firms here at Nishatabad on Monday, he said during the last two years, 92 per cent increase had been witnessed in prices of petroleum products and 45 per cent in gas rates.

He said despite heavy increase in various inputs, power rates had not been enhanced in the country and the government was trying its best to reduce the burden on consumers and providing electricity at low rates.

Talking about alternative power arrangements, he said two power stations (windmill) would be set up between Karachi and Hyderabad by utilising air instead of oil.

He said 660 units had been provided with electricity from power stations of this nature and the government was considering to increase this system throughout the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Chuxiang said this gigantic project costing Rs3.12 billion would be completed by August next year and electricity would be provided to 280 grid stations from Faisalabad to Muzaffargarh.
