RAWALPINDI: Almost Rs5 billion have been sanctioned for the construction and repair of roads in the garrison city, including the Kutchery Chowk project, to address the issue of traffic congestion, said District Coordination Committee Chairman MNA Raja Qamarul Islam.

According to the lawmaker who was elected from Rawalpindi, Rs2 billion will be spent on the Kutchery Chowk remodelling project, a flyover on Adiala Road will cost over Rs1 billion, Rs50 million will be spent to upgrade the Rescue 1122 office, and a sum of Rs13.4 million will be spent to finish the Jhatta Hatial Girls College during the upcoming fiscal year.

Sharing details, the MNA said the government would construct a broadened road from Khawaja Corporation to Gorakhpur at a cost of Rs2 billion as well as a flyover which would cost over Rs1.5 billion to ease the flow of traffic in the area.

The project will facilitate the residents of Adiala Road, Chauntra, Rawat, Dhamman, Kalyal, Dhamial, Adiala, and Gorakhpur. The MNA said a road has also been approved from Chakri Adda to Haryanwala via Bilawal Bus Stand at a cost of Rs2 billion, for which Rs350 million will be released in this financial year.

“The people of this area have been suffering due to the dilapidated condition of this road,” he said, adding that a grant of Rs6.2 million has also been sanctioned for the construction of the Chakri-Dhambar road which will be completed in the same financial year.

According to the MNA, a sum of Rs100 million has been approved for the construction of Harka Bisali Road, which will be released within this financial year. He said that a grant of Rs50 million has been approved for the completion of the outstanding work of Kardar Road, which will be released in the same financial year.

He said a key road which was the major link between Adiala Road and Rawat-Chakri Road i.e. Kachi Jodiyan to Jarar Camp Mor has been added to the list of approved projects and would cost Rs210 million.
