LAHORE: The Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) has approached the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Punjab Cooperative Department and others forums concerned to take necessary legal action under the relevant laws, rules and regulations against 15 housing schemes using its name unlawfully, thus exploiting the public at large since long.

Except Wapda Cooperative Housing Society, known as Wapda Town in Lahore, all others are using the name of authority illegally.

Therefore, the authority has approached the FIA, registrar (cooperative) and other forums to take appropriate legal action against all such schemes, according to official sources. The housing societies, using Wapda’s name unlawfully include Wapda Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Multan; Wapda Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Gujranwala; Wapda Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Faisalabad; Wapda Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Sargodha; Wapda Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Sheikhupura; Wapda Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Kasur; Wapda Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Islamabad; Wapda Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Peshawar; Wapda Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Quetta; Wapda Employees Housing Society, Karachi; Wapda Workers and Officers Cooperative Housing Society, Hyderabad; Wapda Employees Cooperative Housing Society, KIP, Karachi; Wapda Employees Cooperative Housing Society, (Southern Zone, Karachi); Wapda City, Faisalabad, and Wapda City of Gujranwala.

According to a spokesperson, Wapda has publicly renounced its association, nexus and direct or indirect affiliation with any cooperative housing society, except Lahore projects, which are authorised to use the name of Wapda. “Wapda cannot be held responsible for liabilities, if any, that may be raised by the public, pursuant to investment in such rogue, illegal, and unlawful housing societies,” warns the spokesperson.
