GUJRANWALA, March 16: A factory owner’s son who was kidnapped for ransom was got released from his unidentified abductors by his heirs on Thursday after paying them Rs2.5 million when police failed to trace the youth.
Reports said US-returned Engineer Muhammad Zubair, son of Mian Abdul Haleem, a food manufacturing factory owner, was kidnapped by some unidentified men from small industries estate. The kidnappers had also taken away the costly car Zubair was travelling by.
The outlaws, who had intercepted Zubair in factory workers’ uniforms, allegedly took away him first to Naushera Virkan and then to Sheikhupura. They contacted the victim’s family by telephone and demanded three million rupees from his safe release.
The heirs informed the police about the kidnap and the phone call but the force failed to recover the victim despite passage of three days.
At last, the heirs struck a deal with the outlaws who released Zubair after receiving Rs2.5 million.
Meanwhile, a senior officer claimed that the accused would be arrested soon as various police teams were surrounding their hideout.
The kidnap had spread panic among the industrialists, many of whom were avoiding to send their children alone in the city.
It has been learnt that no case has so far been registered by police.
BAILED OUT: Over 100 kite flyers, who were arrested for flouting a kite flying ban some three days ago, were bailed out by local courts on Thursday.
Reports said that courts accepted bails after the Punjab chief minister ordered the release of all accused involved in kite flying. All the accused were released after they submitted surety bonds of Rs50,000 each.
Around 300 youths, including 30 minor boys, were arrested during a crack down while courts had already released all minor boys on the same day after receiving surety bonds of Rs20,000 each.
