LAHORE: PPP candidate for NA-148 Syed Ali Kasim Gilani won the by-election in Multan with a margin of over 30,000 votes against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf-backed Barrister Taimur Altaf Malik Mahay.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced the result of the by-election, stating that Mr Gilani secured 85,863 votes while Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) candidate Mr Mahay received 52,354 votes.

The by-election was held after the seat was vacated by Yusuf Raza Gilani, who was elected as a Senator.

The ECP set up 275 polling stations where voters exercised their right to vote. The constituency includes both rural and urban areas, with rural areas being more dominant.
