PESHAWAR: The city traffic police department has launched ‘Chips Rider Squad’ to maintain smooth flow of traffic across the provincial capital.

The rider squad, comprising reserve force of the traffic police, would be responding to calls from the traffic headquarters in case of traffic jams. It would not be stationed at one place, but would be responding to traffic issues across the provincial capital.

SSP traffic Saud Khan said the department already had ‘Chips rider squads’ and 36 patrolling vehicles were maintaining traffic in the provincial capital. He said the department also wanted to utilise the reserve force for responding to emergency calls.

Mr Saud said utilising the reserve force was a normal management and it happened in regular as well as motorway police. He said the reserve force was deployed when other members of the force were absent due to emergencies or were attending courses to fill the vacant spots.

“We have converted the reserve force into squads for a quick response to emergency situations,” he said, adding that the squads would be present at hotspots.

The SSP traffic also said that since the squad would be riding on motorbikes, they would be quickly responding to emergency traffic issues in any part of the provincial capital.
