ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) held a meeting on Friday to discuss ways to implement steps for digitalisation of the tax system.

An official announcement said that officials from the Ministry of Finance, FBR, Karandaaz and the consulting firm attended the meeting. It was the first meeting following the signing of the contract by the global consulting firm McKinsey & Company to digitalise the tax system.

The digitalisation of the tax system is a pivotal step towards modernising tax collection, enhancing transparency and revenue growth.

Finance and Revenue Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said digital transformation is a key priority for the government, and this collaboration underscores the government’s commitment to improving tax collection to promote sustained economic growth.

“We look forward to seeing the positive impact of this initiative on Pakistan’s economy”, he remarked.

FBR Chairman Zubair Tiwana emphasised FBR’s commitment to enhancing revenue collection by leveraging technology to modernise its operations. He highlighted that this project is a significant step towards achieving FBR’s goals of transparency and efficiency to better serve the people of Pakistan.

The CEO of Karandaaz Pakistan, Waqas ul Hasan, expressed confidence that this collaboration will help FBR define and implement its digital strategy and highlighted that the experience the contracted firm brings for this assignment would contribute to realising the broader vision of the Pakistan Digital Stack initiative.
