LAHORE: Experts and stakeholders of a symposium on battery vehicle said the government’s support is crucial for increasing the trend of electric vehicle (EV) technology to catalyse economic growth, mitigate environmental concerns and create technological innovation in Pakistan.

Lahore University of Management Sciences (Lums) in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission, the World Bank and others organised the symposium. The event under the theme ‘Accelerating the Electric Mobility Transition in Pakistan’, discussed progress, challenges, and strategies for electrifying transportation in the country.

Lums Suleman Dawood School of Business representative Dr Shakil Sadiq Jajja said EV technology is ready for adoption in Pakistan and the government should adopt environment friendly policies in the country. He said the Punjab government announced providing 20,000 electric bikes to students but the number was reduced to 1,000. He said the government’s role was needed in supporting the EV industry.
