KOHAT: A man was killed and his son was injured when their rivals opened fire on them in Gulberg Colony on Bannu Road here on Tuesday.
A Rescue 1122 team reached the scene soon after receiving an emergency call from the control room and shifted the man and his son to the KDA Teaching Hospital in critical condition. However, one of the injured, identified as Mohammad Ijaz, succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital.
A police statement said Ijaz and his son, Asim, were residents of Shakardarra Town.
The wounded Asim told the Saddar police that Shafiqullah and Haneefullah of Pakka Shakardarra opened fire at them when they were going home from a bazaar on a motorcycle.
The police registered a murder and attempted murder case against the accused under sections 302 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code, and began making efforts to arrest them.
CULTURAL GALA: The student social welfare society of the Hangu campus of the Kohat University of Science and Technology (Kust) organised a daylong cultural gala on Tuesday.
Hangu deputy commissioner Haider Hussain was the chief guest at the festival, while Kust Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohammad Naseerurdin and campus director Waheedullah Wazir were the guests of honor.
Society’s chairman and president, Abdul Basir and Fayyaz Khan, along with a large number of students and visitors participated in the festival.
The participants showed keen interest in the stalls of local cuisine and Pakhtun cultural items.
The vice-chancellor emphasised that education helped societies set high moral standards and ensure development.
He said awareness among people was a must for bringing distinctive cultures and tribes together.
He said that an educated young generation could lead the Pakhtuns to adopt modern technology and improve their economic conditions.
