PESHAWAR: Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has stressed the need for strengthening relations between the people of Pakistan and United States.
He was talking to Deputy Chief of Mission at US Embassy Andrew Shofer and US Consul General in Peshawar Shante Moore, who called on him here on Monday to congratulate him on assuming the office of governor.
During the meeting, they discussed various matters of mutual interest, including collaboration between US development agencies and provincial government, as well as bilateral cooperation in different sectors.
The governor stressed the need for promote two-way relations and connections between the people of the two countries. He also highlighted the importance of peace for development and prosperity of the province, particularly in the tribal and southern districts that were severely affected by terrorism.
Mr Kundi expressed his desire for good relations with all neighbouring countries, including Afghanistan, and acknowledged the decades-long hospitality extended to Afghan refugees in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and across the country. He also mentioned the ongoing process of dignified repatriation of illegal Afghan refugees living in the country.
Andrew Shofer said that American development and aid organisations were working in the province for public welfare.
