GUJRANWALA, March 14: A separate room for the treatment of in-custody accused and prisoners will be built at the divisional headquarters hospital to help avert their escape with the funds provided by the city district government.
This was stated by the hospital medical superintendent, Dr Nisar Ahmad Cheema, at the Criminal justice Coordination Committee meeting here on Tuesday.
The meeting was presided over by District and Sessions Judge Mazhar Hussain, while DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq, city SP investigation Muhammad Maqbool, Jail Superintendent Mian Shaukat Ali and other senior officers attended it.
The meeting urged better medical facilities for prisoners at state-run hospitals, besides steps to help avert escape of in-custody criminals and accused.
The meeting also stressed the need for expediting submission of charge-sheets in the court by investigation police for provision of speedy justice to the accused.
RAIN: Heavy rain lashed the city on Tuesday around 10am, turning the low-lying areas and streets into ponds while Wasa started pumping out the rainwater from these localities.
The rain was continuing till the filing of this report in the evening, causing inconvenience to people.
STAY ORDER: The Punjab Labour Court No 7 on Tuesday issued a stay order against the retrenchment of Habib Bank employees till March 27, besides notice to the bank administration on a petition.
The petitioner, M Rafiq, pleaded before the court through his counsel advocate Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmad Chehal that as many as 2,400 employees working at various bank branches on daily wages for the last many years had been sacked by the administration without any justification instead of providing them better facilities.
Judge Muhammad Khalid Rashid issued the stay order after accepting the petition.
A court has already issued stay order against the dismissal of these employees in Islamabad a few days ago.
KILLED: An unidentified boy was crushed to death by Tezgam express near a railway crossing here on Tuesday.
The boy was crossing the rail track when he got crushed under the train. He died on the spot.
Railway police removed his body to the DHQ hospital.
