HYDERABAD, March 14: The district chapter of the People’s Party Parliamentarians has appealed to the Supreme Court and the Sindh High Court to take suo motu notice of an attack on supporters of Saleem Jahejo, an Awam Dost candidate for the post of nazim of Hatri Union Council-I.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Tuesday, MPA Zahid Bhurgari, Amanullah Siyal, Zahir Ghumman and Aftab Khanzada said that eight voters of ADP candidate Saleem Jahejo were seriously injured by the supporters of government candidate, Karim Bux Jahejo.

They said the Hatri police not only refused to register the FIR of the injured but on the contrary registered a false FIR against MPA Zahid Bhurgari and the injured.

They said that the civil hospital authorities refused to issue medical certificates to the injured.

The PPP leaders said that they had informed the election authorities and the district administration to declare the polling station of Hatri as sensitive to check any untoward incident but this was not done.

They said the SHOs of Hatri and Tandojam police stations were transferred three days before the elections in flagrant violation of the election rules.

They said that the two SHOs were transferred to rig the elections.

They alleged that the DPO was acting as the “Kamdar” of the district government and that was the reason that the FIR was not being registered.

The PPP leaders said that despite rigging and attacks on the supporters of ADP candidate, Saleem Jahejo, he had won the elections by 1,400 votes.

They said that they were being threatened with dire consequences and demanded that an FIR should be registered against the assailants and they should be arrested without delay.

MPA Zahid Bhurgari said that since police had refused to register an FIR, they would file direct complaint in the relevant court of law on Thursday.
