BAHAWALPUR: Four dacoits allegedly kidnapped a police head constable, tortured him and snatched Rs 0.4m from him in Burewala circle of Vehari district.
According to police sources, the victim Ghulam Raza was going home on Sunday night when four armed dacoits, arriving in a car, kidnapped him. After subjecting him to torture and snatching the money, they threw him out of the car near Burewala and sped away.
On the constable’s complaint, Burewala police registered a case against unidentified dacoits.
JAIL TERM: Vehari District and Sessions Judge Amjad Nazir Chaudhryon Monday handed down 25-year collective sentence to a drug peddler, along with Rs0.45 million fine in two cases of Daniwal and Machhiwal police stations.
According to prosecution, Daniwal police had arrested Muhammad Arshad and recovered 1,500 gram charas from his possession. In the case registered with Daniwal police station, the court awarded him 13-year imprisonment, along with a Rs 0.2.5m fine.
In the second case lodged with Machhiwal police station, 1,129 gram charas was recovered from Arshad’s possession and the court awarded him 12-year term, along with Rs0.2m fine.

According to police sources, the suspect, Junaid, was arrested in a theft case and was being brought back after recovery of some stolen items, when his unidentified accomplices, riding a motorcycle, opened fire on the police party to free him, near Bakkar Mandi. Police claimed that Junaid sustained serious injuries in the firing by his accomplices and was admitted to hospital. The police registered a case against his fleeing accomplices.
SUICIDE BID: A married woman was seriously injured allegedly when she attempted suicide due to a family dispute by throwing herself in front of a moving train near railway crossing at Ahmedpur East.
As per police, Ms Sumera (30), wife of Muhammad Irfan, was injured during the suicide bid and was admitted to Ahmedpur East THQ Hospital.
